Snarl Greywolf is Co-Owner and General Manager at KHOWL (KHWL 98.7), the local rock station in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, about 105 miles southwest of Oklahoma City. KHOWL maintains a big presence in the local community, appearing at just about every event in the area. Live broadcasts are lifeblood, and as a relative newcomer to the area, having operated only about five years, doing so many remotes at local events and getting in front of people is how KHOWL has made a name for itself.Read More
Working in radio can be a lot of fun. Being on the air, playing the hits, and broadcasting exciting live events are just some of the elements that have drawn people to radio for years. But it can be a little scary at times too. With Halloween around the corner, we thought we'd share a few scary stories of some of our Telos Alliance colleagues from their days in radio. From failed equipment at live remotes to creepy warehouses to the dreaded dead air, we've got you covered. Read their tales here... If it's not too frightening.Read More

Originally developed for Salem Communications in the early 2000s, Rivendell is a widely-used radio automation program. After developing the system using the open-source Linux platform and tweaking it to do automation the way Salem did it, Rivendell creator (now President and Chief Developer) Fred Gleason, who had worked for Salem himself, founded Paravel Systems. We sat down for a chat with Fred recently to get the story of Paravel and how Rivendell came about.Read More
Every once in a while we come across a broadcaster or radio station so interesting and unique, we have to tell the story. Earlier this year the Telos Alliance van paid a visit to one such station, just a couple hours south of our Cleveland headquarters. There, in Ohio’s state capital of Columbus, is independent CD 102.5 (WWCD), the Alternative Station.
As he nears the 20 year mark with the company, we sat down with Telos Systems Product Manager Jason Wisnieski for his career backstory, his view of the industry, and what it means to be part of the Alliance. Hear what the Telos veteran, wearer of handlebar moustache, and resident renaissance man has to say.
When the owner of Spain’s XtraFM 92.7 decided to sell, he wanted the buyer to be someone with ‘Radio DNA’—someone familiar with the industry who really cared about the station, and wouldn’t buy it simply as a money-making venture. Otherwise he was going to take it off the air. Enter Patrick van den Hoek, broadcast engineer at XtraFM for seven years. When the offer to buy the station was extended, Patrick didn’t have to think it over for too long.Read More
Down on the lower end of the FM dial is where you’ll find them… Diligently plugging away, sometimes sounding as if they’re not so sure of themselves, playing music you’ve likely never heard before. Depending on what you hear, you may feel it’s not your cup of tea and tune your radio to something more mainstream.
But do you ever get tired of mainstream and feel like you want something a little different? Then I invite you to stick around a while, bear with the young DJ spinning the tunes, and open your ears to something you don’t always hear on mainstream radio. Welcome to the wonderful world of college radio.Read More
This past weekend was the annual conference of the CCBE (Central Canada Broadcast Engineers) outside Toronto. The proceedings featured a small-scale interoperability event similar to the AES Plugfest, and a keynote presentation on the benefits of AES67 and AES70. Our Jeff McGinley attended along with Tyler Everitt, from our Canadian dealer Pippin, so we caught up with them for a review.Read More
Another IBC has come and gone, and this year's visit to Amsterdam was another exciting and successful one! The booth was packed, the champagne flowed for our big new product announcement, and by the end of the five-day show two major awards were in our hands, cementing our position as the leader in broadcast innovation. After such a whirlwind show, you'd think we'd want to take a break, but we're super psyched and looking forward to bringing our latest solutions to audiences across the globe.Read More
