15 Minutes with SCISYS, Our Newest Livewire Partner

We are thrilled to welcome SCISYS Deutschland GmbH—manufacturer of Media Asset Management Systems specializing in turnkey solutions for radio production and playout—as our newest Livewire partner. Here, we sit down with Michael Thielen to get his take on the industry in general, and becoming a Livewire partneSCISYS.png

Why did you decide to become a Livewire Partner?

SCISYS is a manufacturer of Media Asset Management Systems and is particulary specialized in turnkey solutions for radio production and playout. Dealing with this, our playout applications are using a large number of different mixing desks. As we found out that Audio over IP becomes more and more important for our customers, we decided not only to talk about this but to show our capabilities in those environments. One of our customers is using a large number of Axia Desks for a new project. We delivered all the playout software for this large project, and as we are interfacing there with a large number of Axia Desks, we thought it would be the perfect timing to become a Livewire partner.

What do you hope to get out of being a Livewire partner moving forward?
We hope to raise our customers´ awareness that AoIP is not only something everyone talks about but it is something which is being used in a real life environment. Partnering with Livewire will show that our systems are fit for the new challenges arising at the broadcasters and it will show them an innovative way of using standard network connections for future proof radio Production and Playout

Did you guys

In general the setup for the IBC was to show our MAM and Production and Playout software in the latest version, giving people a lot of fancy possibililites to create, edit, broadcast and re-use content. Along our software we will show a tight integration with “Phonebox” and their “Virtual Director” to create a visual Radio Stream which enhances the “ordinary” radio program with Metadata Information, Pictures and live videos from the Studio as well as preproduced video content like music videos and clips.

Why did you decide to use Axia this year at IBC?

Typically we change the mixing desk we use on the trade shows every few years. The last years we had Studer and Lawo Desks, but this year we showed an interaction with a system from Broadcast Bionics, we thought showing Axia would be the right way to do. This is on the one hand to show our AoIP Capabilities and on the other hand to integrate with Broadcast Bionics who also use for some of their workflows the Axia technology.

The Telos Alliance is the inventor of AoIP for broadcast, informing much of the early work on the AES67 standard. The technology in all Axia products is Livewire plus AES67 (Livewire+), an AoIP protocol that enables high-reliability, low-delay uncompressed digital audio over Ethernet, including audio, logic, control, and program associated data (PAD). All Axia Livewire+ products have built-in compliance with the AES67 standard. Axia and the Telos Alliance are committed proponents of AoIP interoperability—first as charter, supporting members of the X192 Working Group that defined AES67, and now as founding members of the Media Networking Alliance, a group of prominent equipment manufacturers formed to actively promote the adoption and implementation of the AES67 standard.

Today, Axia mixing consoles, digital audio routers, broadcast intercom systems, and routing control software—along with other Telos brands and 85+ partners—are powering broadcast studios around the globe.
