Ask the Omnia Guy: Adding HD2 to an Omnia.11

Dear Omnia Guy,

Our Omnia.11 sounds amazing on HD, but we are splitting off and adding an HD2. I don’t see an option to add an HD2 for the Omnia.11. Omnia.9 has it. Have you thought about adding that to the Omnia.11?

-Gene in Kansas

Thanks Gene! Here’s what you CAN do to get a beefy HD2 sound like what you would get from your 11:

Omnia VOLT in HD Mode. Stay with me. Here’s why: The VOLT has the same Sensus codec that we offer in the Omnia.11’s HD side. Sensus does an excellent job helping to mask some of the artifacts that take place when the HE-AAC codec bitrate starts getting ratcheted down—like adding more HD.

You say you are in Kansas, so I know Kansas City is the only market using watermarking in the state. Just in case, the VOLT also gives larger markets an insert point option to effectively side-chain their watermarking gear.

In the end, the price works out to be roughly the same as adding an HD1 output to your 11.

The VOLT sounds incredible in HD mode. Just try it! It’s great for feeding a streaming encoder, too. Plus, you can’t go wrong. The VOLT can do FM, AM, or be a Stereo Generator. It's very useful to have around.

Unfortunately, the Omnia.11 wasn’t designed to be able to add HD channels like the Omnia.9
